What does a Design Sprint do?
A Design Sprint is a five-phase framework that helps answer critical business questions through rapid prototyping and user testing.
What does a Design Sprint do?
Sprints let your team reach clearly defined goals and deliverables and gain key learnings, quickly.
The process helps spark innovation, encourage user-centered thinking, align your team under a shared vision, and get you to product launch faster.
A Design Sprint is a great means to solve your challenges and test solutions with real users in just five days. It keeps you from months of expensive work on a new feature or product and helps you go from the idea to learning from your users in order to build something really valuable.
On the first day - usually a Monday - we create the patch and structure for our Sprint week. We first figure out what your long-term goal is that will guide us the next days and create a “map” showing our way to accomplish our challenge. In the afternoon we will listen to the experts (e.g. customer service, marketing) at your company to share what they have to say about your customers and their experiences. Finally, you’ll pick a target: an ambitious but manageable piece of the problem that you can solve in one week.
The second day is focused on inspiration and creation. Don`t be afraid! This is actually one of the most engaging and exciting parts of our Sprints. We get inspired and use several techniques to remix and improve known ideas to create something that helps us solve our challenge. Finally you will sketch your solution to get us prepared for Day 3.
We start sharing our solution sketches from the day before and then altogether decide which solutions are most likely to achieve our long-term goal. After we have done that we can go right to storyboarding which means we create a step-by-step plan for your prototype. As we already said you will not only create a solution in a Sprint week but also test it with real users. We prepare all the user testing and acquire the testers themselves.
On Thursday we focus on building that prototype to test. For this part of the process your presence is not required but you are always welcome to join and help build and review the prototype and finally prepare the actual test.
Remember when we set our goal on Day 1? We defined a big challenge for our Sprint Week and by Friday we will have created a realistic prototype for a promising solution and we will have interviewed and watched real users work with our prototype.
At the end of the day, you’ll know how far you have to go, and you’ll know just what to do next.
In case you answer at least one of the questions on the right with a ‚Yes‘,
you definitely need a Design Sprint!
